التعريف

التراجع اللانهائي هو المشكلة القائلة إنه إن كان واقعنا محاكى، فقد يكون الواقع الذي يشغّله محاكى أيضًا، بلا مكان طبيعي للتوقف.

الدور في النموذج

المحاكاة داخل المحاكاة ليست مجانية. فعلى كل طبقة أن تشغّل التي بداخلها. وتجري نافذة التراجع القسمة. ولمعظم البنى يكون التراصّ ضحلًا. أما لأكبرها فعمقه صفر، لأن الكون الخارجي لا يستطيع تشغيل نسخة واحدة منها.
