সংজ্ঞা

সময়-ধাপ হলো একটি সিমুলেশনের এক হালনাগাদ থেকে পরেরটির মধ্যে সিমুলেটেড সময়ের টুকরো। দ্রুততর পদার্থবিদ্যার জন্য ছোট সময়-ধাপ লাগে: পরমাণুর জন্য ফেমটোসেকেন্ড, ইলেকট্রনের জন্য অ্যাটোসেকেন্ড।

সে কারণেই পরমাণুর ধাপে প্রতিটি পরমাণুর জন্য প্রতি সেকেন্ডে 10^15টি হালনাগাদ লাগে।

মডেলে ভূমিকা

খুঁটিনাটি দুবার জমে: কতগুলো জিনিস আপনি ট্র্যাক করেন, আর কত ঘন ঘন হালনাগাদ করেন। পরমাণুর প্রতি ফেমটোসেকেন্ডে নতুন অবস্থান লাগে, তাই একটি পরমাণু-স্তরের জগৎ চলে প্রতি সেকেন্ডে এক কোয়াড্রিলিয়ন হালনাগাদে। সে কারণেই সূক্ষ্মতর পদার্থ-নিম্নসীমায় শুধু জিনিসের সংখ্যা যা ইঙ্গিত দেয় তার চেয়ে ঢের বেশি কম্পিউটিং লাগে।
