# Funktionalismus

Definition

Funktionalismus ist die Ansicht, dass ein mentaler Zustand durch das definiert ist, was er tut: wie er mit Eingaben, Ausgaben und anderen mentalen Zuständen verbunden ist. Woraus er physisch besteht, spielt keine Rolle.

Rolle im Modell

Das funktionale Geistmodell ist Funktionalismus mit einer Zahl daran: Jedes Neuron ist ein Knoten, jede Synapse ein Gewicht, und nichts anderes wird dargestellt. Wenn nur die grobe funktionale Organisation zählt, reicht diese Stufe für ein Bewusstsein. Wenn feineres physikalisches Detail zählt, braucht man eine höhere Stufe, bis hinauf zur Quantenstufe. Wenn keine digitale Version bewusst sein kann, wie Searle und die Theorie der integrierten Information sagen, funktioniert keine Stufe.
