缸中之脑是一个思想实验：一个没有身体的大脑，被喂以模拟的感官输入。它检验的是，我们能否知道自己不处在那种情形里。希拉里·普特南论证说，这个设想会自我拆台，因为我们的词语能指称什么是有限制的。

“缸中之脑”预设是沙盒能建的最小的模拟：底层现实中的一个真实大脑，世界作为感官输入喂给它。大脑自己思考，所以只有世界需要计算，几个 GPU 机架就装得下。
