机器阶梯止于一台宇宙规模的计算机。对最大的那些情景来说，“后人类”就必须是这个意思。

在模型中的作用

机器阶梯从一部手机，一路爬到宇宙大小的计算机。越过“地球上的所有计算机”之后的每一档，都属于一个尚不存在的文明。当一个情景落在木星大脑上时，这个术语指的就是谁会拥有它。
