Sensitive plant

Mimosa pudica

A plant whose leaves fold when touched. One study reported that it learns to ignore harmless touches. A later re-analysis disputed that.

This result comes from a single laboratory, and claims of learning in plants are contested.

Evidence

  • Reported habituation: the leaflets stopped folding after repeated harmless drops, and the response lasted for weeks.

  • A re-analysis found the evidence wasn't enough to show habituation.
